Railroad View: Semi-Fair View, Trees & brush limit the view. Wintertime view is slightly better. Most all rooms have a railroad view. 1st floor rooms may have an obstructed view due to vehicles in the parking lot. Tracks are about 50 feet from building. Trains are loud as they pass. There is no advance warning of an approaching train. At night, trains can be seen, but there is too much brush to read engine numbers.
Railroad past Hotel: Union Pacific (former Chicago & North Western RR mainline), about 60 trains over 24-hours operate over this route.
Notes: Of the 3 motels in Denison that overlook the railroad tracks, this one is the closest and has the best view. Guests normally use to national chain motels will likely be unsatisfied with this privately owned motel. The odd smell in the room alone deters me to recommend this motel. Luckily, during my visit it was warm outside and I was able to open the room window and get some fresh air in the room. Most of the guests in the motel during my visit were blue collar workers staying here while they do local jobs in the area. Overnight several panel vans and work trucks were parked in the parking lot.
Comments: You get what you pay for, sometimes less. Rooms have been lightly remodeled. Other than an odd smell in the room, the first impression was better than I was expecting. But after looking around a bit, reality set in. There was a beer cap found on the bathroom windowsill, linen / bedding could look cleaner, and the chair in the room was gross. It looked like several things over the years spilled on it, I didn't even want to put my bag on it. The bed's box springs were uncovered and looked like they lived through a flood or two. There were no dresser draws in the room.
Picture Comments: (Center photo): A double stack train passes the motel; this is the view from the front of the motel as seen from outside my door in room # 22. (Right photo): The view from the south end of the motel taken from in front of door of room # 29. (Left photo): A Union Pacific GEVO leads an eastbound train.

Railroad View: Fair / Poor, Trains are too far from the motel to get a good look. Video Camera with a zoom may work. Standing in the parking lot improves the view.
Railroad past Hotel: Union Pacific (former Chicago & North Western RR mainline), Canadian National (IC). UP runs a good 50 trains daily over this route, but it didn't seem like many during my stay...maybe I just didn't hear them.
Notes: During my stay for this review, the motel was still a Days Inn. Denison also has limited eateries. The UP line more or less follows Route US-30.
Comments: Super 8 across the way may have a better view, especially of the CN line.
Picture Comments: Left: Motel photo looks west, tracks are to the right of this photo. You can tell I took a walk to find a better view of the railroad. Right photo: As seen from the west side of the motel parking lot, a westbound Union Pacific freight passes the motel. This was the best place to watch the trains from, as the view from the building isn't really a view!
