Railroads past Hotel: Merta (IC/CN Main Line)/ Chicago South Shore & South Bend RR.  All train's that pass the hotel are electric commuter trains.  The end of the line in just north of the hotel.

Comments:  Railfans may consider walking to Millennium Station, and riding a Metra train south to Homewood, IL.  Homewood has a railfan viewing platform for train watchers.  The covered platform has benches, a radio scanner, and is across the street from a nice Starbucks Coffee house.  Homewood is a nice area, and is located on the IC (CN) Mainline with a parade of Metra electric train's and CN freight trains.  CN/IC's Woodcrest yard & locomotive shop is located just north of Homewood station.  

Picture Comments:  This aerial photo faces east.  Upper rooms on the east side of the hotel may keep the railroad view above the trees.

Picture Comments:  A Metra commuter train is northbound out of Chicago's Union Station.  The Holiday Inn Hotel is circled in yellow.  The Holiday Inn uses the top 10-floors of the Chicago Sun-Times building. Just out of view to the top of this aerial photo are several more tracks for access to Metra's Ogilvie Transportation Center, and CTA's Green and Pink lines.  A 15-minute walk will put you at CTA's Clinton station.
