Railroad View: Excellent. Any room on the "River Side" should provide an excellent view. The train's pass though town around 10 mph. About 10-12 trains pass the hotel during a 24-hour period, mostly during daylight hours. Just in case by some bizarre reason you can't land a river view during your stay, you’re not completely out of luck, the city side of the building offers a view of another streetcar line located in front of the hotel.
Railroads past Hotel: New Orleans Public Belt (NOPB) / Riverfront Streetcar. Three tracks pass this hotel. Two of the tracks belong to the Riverfront Streetcar, which is used by tourists and locals to offer as an alternative from walking on the Riverwalk. The streetcar operates daily on continuous bases between early mornings to late evening. The third track belongs to the NOPB Railway, most trains that pass are long through freights which include double stack trains, locomotives on many of the trains are supplied by the class 1's (BNSF, UP, CSX, etc...), and the red NOPB locomotives will also be seen during the day.

Comments: Located at the French Quarter section of New Orleans.
Photo Comment: This aerial photo shows the Riverview side of the building. You can see the three railroad tracks located just outside the hotel. The two tracks closest to the hotel is the Riverfront Streetcar right of way, the third track in the NOPB freight line. This is a great "tourist area", plan to spend a day just walking around the area. The French Quarter, the Riverwalk, and countless things’ to do in this immediate area will surly keep you occupied! Don't forget the trains, ride the streetcars and keep an eye open for a passing freight train, or riverboat!

Railroad View: Excellent, depending on the room. I was in room # 5027. There are 28-rooms in this section of the building that offer an outstanding view of the railroad. Any room from the 2nd to 5th floor (highest floor in this area) will give you an excellent railroad view. The train's pass the hotel at 10 mph, though they move slowly, they may wake you up at night. But don't worry; only about 10-12 trains pass the hotel during a 24-hour period, mostly during daylight hours.

Notes: This is a lovely 1st class hotel. Want to skip the hotel food (which by the way is very good)? Head to the food court in the Riverwalk Marketplace which is connected to the hotel!
Comments: With the right room, this is the best railfan motel in New Orleans!
Photo Comments: Looking out the window of room # 5027, New Orleans Public Belt locomotive # 2008 passes the hotel westbound after dropping a train off a couple miles east of the hotel.
Standing outside the hotel, New Orleans Public Belt Railroad # 2008 pulls a long string of cars eastbound past the hotel, from here the train will operate along the RiverWalk and the popular tourist district. This is a great hotel and is in the middle of everything you would want to see in New Orleans, including the railroad! All of it is within walking distance. The street car stop is also located here, don't want to walk, take the trolley!
The night photo shows the Riverfront Streetcar making a brief stop at Poydras Street station located in front of the hotel. The freight track is just out of view to the lower part of this picture. Aerial photo shows the front of the hotel. The section of the hotel marked by the yellow circle locates the area of the building where I had my room (Room # 5027). This is the best area to get a railroad view, you will get the full effect as the trains pass a lightly used road crossing in front of the hotel. Rooms in the "tower" section of the hotel may also have a view, but it will be a "down-on" view of passing trains. Within walking distance, you will not only have numorous photo opportunities with the railroad / streetcar line, but you are in the "center of it all" including the French Quarter!
