Railroad View: Fair to Poor View from 2nd floor rooms on the rear of the motel. Due to a man-made hill between the railroad and the motel, only the top 50% of passing trains can be seen from 2nd floor rooms. Additionally, several trees further decrease what could be a nice view. You will not be able to see trains from first floor rooms. Windows do open, protected by a screen. Northbound trains blow horns 1/2 mile south of the motel. These horns can be heard only from a quiet room (A/C-Heater off, TV off). Its too dark to see trains at night.
Railroads past Hotel: Canadian Pacific / Amtrak.
Notes: There are no restaurants (or any other businesses) located within walking distance of this motel.
Comments: Motel is famous for one of the shooting locations of the movie "Grumpy Old Men". Several photographs and memorabilia from the movie shoot is proudly displayed throughout the motel. My family and me really enjoyed our visit to this motel, and have also discussed returning next trip to the area. The motel also offers a free hot breakfast that was very good!Photo Comment: The second locomotive and a box car can be seen on a westbound freight. This was the best photo I was able to get during my stay. Due to the man-made hill between the railroad and the motel, only the top 50% of the train can be seen from the motel. I was in room # 211 which I considered a great room for train watching. I saw 9-trains during my 14 hour visit. Three of those were during daylight which included SOO Line and new GP22ECO locomotives.
