ADA Accessible rooms available as well. Each room has free high-speed wireless connectivity, coffee machine, flat screen HDTV, telephone, in-room safe and room service available.

Railroad View:  Fair distant view (during daylight), Not great for photos / videos, zoom lens and binoculars work best.  At night not much of a view, locomotive headlights seen only.  Request a high room on the southwest side of the hotel.  South or west sides should be ok as well.  [Room numbers that end with the following two digits will offer the best railroad views: 01, 02, 13, 14, 15, 16]. My room was on the 8th floor.  I was told higher floor rooms were getting new water pipes installed.  A higher floor rooms may have made this review a bit better as far as the railroad view is concerned.

Railroads past Hotel:  Norfolk Southern Railway / Amtrak / NC Amtrak Service (NC owned equipment).

Notes: During my 2012 visit, this hotel was a Clarion Hotel.  The hotel was very nice.  Location is downtown Raleigh.  I arrived at 10:30pm, expecting to have no problem finding dinner took me by surprise.  The room service & hotel restaurant closes at 10pm, and there is no fast food restaurants within walking distance (or a short drive).  Take my advice, if you arrive late have dinner before you arrive - as with most hotels, room service menu is a bit pricey for the offerings.

Comments:

Photo Comment: The railroad view from room # 802 is seen with a 55mm zoom lens.  The morning of July 4th (a US holiday) limited us to just the scheduled passenger trains.  The morning southbound passenger train departs Raleigh station which is just out of view to the left. This view was as good as it got from my room.  Binoculars and a strong zoom lens would increase the view, and make it possible to read the locomotive numbers.  The floor map below shows the best rooms for train watching.  Rooms that end with digits 15 or 16 would be the ideal rooms, higher floors are the best.
