Railroad View: Excellent View! Any room on the front side of the building will give you a great view. Best view will be offered on the 2nd floor on the railroad end of the building. There is a YouTube video of a passing train from a motel room, it can be viewed here. Trains can be seen at night with little trouble, you there is even enough light to catch engine numbers at night. Windows open about 10", but you don't need the windows open to hear the trains. Train's blow their horn for the crossing just east of the motel. There is a sidewalk with park benches along the tracks. This is a great area to photograph trains, as long as you know they are coming, it can be a long wait between train's.
Railroads past Hotel: Norfolk Southern / Canaidan Pacific (trackage rights). Expect 15 trains during a 24-hour period. Hornell is the eastern end of the WNYP Railroad. The WNYP train's may inch up to the motel during switching operations in their small yard, just east (south) of the train station. The recently restored Erie train station has a small railroad museum located inside, its within walking distance of the motel.
Railroad Radio Frequency: 160.800
Notes: A former Comfort Inn motel.
Comments: There are no restaurants within walking distance. The closest eatery is a Burger King down the road. Other restaurants can be found near I-86.
Photo Comment: The aerial view photo to the right shows the building with the green roof is the Best Western motel. The railroad can easily be seen from most all rooms located on the front of the building. This is not a busy railroad line, but for this immediate area, this location will offer the best train frequency. The photo on the left shows a Norfolk Southern train passing the motel as seen.
