About Hotel: 3-Floors, 55-Rooms, Interior Corridors, Complimentary Breakfast, Pets Allowed (fee), Fitness Center, High Speed Internet, Playground, Guest laundry, Truck/RV parking, Free parking, Business center, Exercise facility, 24-hour front desk, Ice/vending machines, Complimentary newspaper, No elevator available (please specify ground floor if necessary), Cable satellite television with HBO, ESPN, AM/FM alarm clock, Hairdyer, Telephone, Coffee/tea maker, Iron/ironing board, Free local calls under 30 minutes, Free long distance access, Refrigerator available, Microwave available per request, Desk/work area, Voice mail, Wake-up calls.

Railroad View:  Excellent View!  A room on the back of the building, located near the railroad end would be best for a railroad view.  2nd & 3rd floors  are needed for a railroad view.  First floor room windows are located at ground level, likely too low to see trains due to brush.  This is not a busy railroad line, expect no more than 2-4 trains during a 24-hour period.  Windows do not open, trains can be views at night thanks to parking lot lights located in a large parking area behind the motel.

Railroads past Hotel: Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad (2004 to current) - Driftwood Branch.  History of the branch follows: Former; Pittsburg and Shawmut Railroad (1996-2004),  Mountain Laurel Railroad (1991-1996), Conrail (1976-1991), Penn Central (1968-1976), Pennsylvania (original owner).

Railroad Radio Frequency:  160.230 (BPRR) - I turned my scanner on when I arrived at 11:30pm on a Sunday evening.  I didn't hear a peep on the radio until 8am the next morning, and that chatter was coming from the train yard just down the road.

Notes:

Comments:  The hotel is very nice, well kept, breakfast was wonderful. The hotel staff was just as great, friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the local railroad scene.  During my short 10-hour stay I didn't see any trains past the motel, but I will make plans to try again in the future!

Photo Comments:  Night View:  Looking east out from room # 203, I not only had a clear view of the railroad, you can actually see the trains...if one had past during my stay.  I stayed here on a Sunday evening, arrived late (11:30pm), not one train past during my 10-hour stay.  Daytime Photo:  The next morning (Monday morning) the weather was beautiful.  There is a pedestrian crossing near the north side of the motel, most likely linking a large parking lot behind the motel to Penn State BuBois University which is located across the tracks.  I took advantage of the crosswalk to take this photo looking west at the Best Western (brick building pictured).  The motel's parking lot is along the railroad tracks, heads up of an approaching train can can set you track side in time for a perfect picture or video of a passing train.

Photo Comment:  The Bing Satellite image (right) shows the Hampton Inn motel circled in yellow, the railroad line are marked in red.  In front of the hotel is a switch that is a connecting track to to the old Buffalo & Susquehanna Railroad mainline.  B&S operated until 1954, than merged into B&O until sold to WAG who operated the line until the mid- 1970's, BPRR ran this spur over to the B&S to service 3 local customers, the rest of the B&S is an abandoned railroad.  In this photo, the orange line show view of the railroad from the motel.  (Below): Looking south from Bee Line Highway across the B&P tracks to the Hampton Inn motel.  Those tree's around the motel's property may downgrade the railroad view.
