Railroad View:  Excellent View.  Although no rooms face the tracks directly, a room on the railroad end of the building (lower numbered rooms) should provide a clear view of the railroad.  Higher floors will keep you above the parking lot / street. Aim for the 3rd floor  Room numbers 304, 301, and 201  will likely be the best.  During my stay I wasn't lucky enough to get a low numbered room even though I requested it on my reservation.  It took 3 tries to even get a usable room, never mind one with a view.  Windows do open all the way protected by a screen.  Distant train horns alert you to an oncomming train.  There is enough light at night to video passing trains.

Railroads past Hotel: BNSF Railway / Amtrak (Cascades - 8 trains daily) / Sound Transit (commuter railroad - 19 trains, weekdays only).

Notes:    Many restaurants are a short drive or 10-minute walk away from the motel.

Comments:  My visit to this property was thumbs down.  Dirty rooms, cigarette smell, single staff member on duty and a busy blue collar clientele with no respect for other guests made me glad to leave the next morning.  Took three tries to get a semi-clean room, people hanging out in the parking lot, and a lot of foot traffic in the hallway.  The most unique remembrance of the room was the refrigerator & microwave located on the window sill. Looking out a room window wasn't on managements mind when they came up with that idea.

Photo Comment:  Center photo:  Looking south down B Street, you can see the rear of Travelodge to the left.  The railroad is clearly seen to the right.

Aerial photo:  The Aerial picture shows the front of Travelodge.  Rooms from either side of the building should offer a railroad view.  Rooms on the front have a better chance for a clear view. Get a room on the railroad end of the building.  Avoid 1st floor rooms due to vehicles in the parking lot may block the railroad view.

Photo Comment:  The aerial photo shows the Best Western motel circled in yellow.  The railroad is off in the distance.  To the far right of the photo you can see the remains of the former Northern Pacific Railway roundhouse foundation.  The south end of the yard is still in use, but most tracks are removed from the north end.

Map:  A map from White River Journal Museum Library shows the former track layout of as its seen across from the Best Western motel.  BNSF Railway is still very active in Auburn.  As you can see from the picture, all 4 mainline tracks still pass Auburn.
